CUMNOR CHESS CLUB’S

PLAYERS CUP 2009

In-House Tournament

Rules:

1.      All players will play each other twice during the course of the year, both playing White and Black.

2.      All games will be timed at 45 mins on each clock in the Senior's & Intermediates tournaments, 30 mins in the junior's tournament.

3.      The games may be played on the night or pre-arranged for a future club night.

4.      Pre-arranged games that do not take place for whatever reason will be void, and a new date should be conveniently arranged.

5.      However, if a pre-arranged game is cancelled three times by the same player then his/her opponent may claim a win.

6. All games should be notated in case of disputes. If a player that disputes the position does not have evidence of the moves then he/she must rely upon their opponent’s notation.  As tournament director I will have the final decision with any dispute. I will be able to obtain advice from any senior player in the club to adjudicate.

7.      We shall play touch and play.

8.      Permanent tophies are awarded to the winner, runner up and third place, in all three tournaments. Names, along with the year of the tournament shall be enscribed. The winners also keep the main club trophies for one year

9.      The tournament winners may keep the main trophies until the end of the following year’s tournament. However they will be required to bring the trophies to each club night from November in order to motivate an end game finale in all tournaments.

10. The main trophies will belong to Cumnor Chess Club at all times.

If a player leaves the club whilst in possession of the main

trophy, then he/she must return it to the club.

11.  All players will have the responsibility to complete all of their games by the end of each year, which is around mid December. Any un-played games will not count towards their final score.

12. All new players joining the club throughout the year may join the tournaments, but they will only be able to accrue points from the games that they manage to play during the tournament year.

13. In the event of a tied position, the player who has won the most points between the tied players attains the higher position. If the points are equal, then whoever has won the most points against the winner, and then working down attains the higher position. For example: Runner-up and third place tie, and have equal point against each other. Their games played against the tournament winner are firstly considered. If the points are still level, then the games against position 4 are considered, and so forth running down the table. In the very unlikely event, that the two players are still tied, then a play off match between these players will be played to decide the final outcome. If this game is drawn, then we shall use a point system on the pieces remaining on the board, which will be Q9 R5 B&N3 and P1. If the position is still drawn then a second rematch will apply, and so on until a result is achieved.
